The Internet is a huge or wide area network that connects millions of computers together all over the world. Information is passed through the Internet with the aid of various languages or set rules known as the Protocols. The Internet is used for e-mail (which makes use of SMTP), Usenet news groups, instant messaging and FTP (file transfer protocol).

The World Wide Web on the other hand is a system of accessing information over the Internet. The web is a large portion of the Internet, it is an information –sharing model built on top of the Internet. The Web uses HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) which is just one of the protocols or languages used over the Internet to transmit data. The Web uses browsers to access Web documents which are referred to as Web pages. Examples of browsers are Internet Explorer, FireFox and Mozilla. The Web pages are linked together with the aid of hyperlinks and these pages may contain graphics, sound text and video.
